The Geri-Actors Seniors’ Theatre is offering a new drop-in drama program for seniors 55 plus.
“It is an outreach program. A lot of seniors would like to be in involved in theatre but can’t commit to meeting every week. So we decided to try out a drop-in program. Anybody who wants to try it out to see if they like it can come. Or if they’re going on vacation they won’t feel like they’re missing out,” says Becca Barrington, administration director for Geri-Actors.
“A lot seniors’ arts programs for seniors see it as a recreation. Not that recreation programs don’t give joy. But Geri-Actors tries to offer a program that gives professional level skills. It’s about learning to use the body and mind in ways not done before. If a senior wants to act, but has never had the opportunity, this is a good way to build the skills.”
The two-hour program is held every Tuesday morning from 10 a.m. to noon at the Seniors Association of Greater Edmonton, 15 Winston Churchill Square. Admission is $2 per week. Refreshments are free of charge. For more information call 780-248-1556.
