The Arden Theatre is thrilled to add Kids in the Hall comedian Bruce McCulloch to their 30th anniversary professional series lineup.

The Edmonton-born comedian, writer and director returns to his boyhood turf in Edmonton for a performance at the Arden Theatre of Young Drunk Punk. The one-man show is an assorted mix of autobiographical insights.

Under the direction of Blake Brooker, the show chronicles McCulloch’s travels from a wild young punk in ’80s Alberta to his flannel plaid days and futon nights in ’90s Toronto. For extra measure, McCulloch throws in the world of a pajama-clad dad living in the Hollywood Hills.

From a scowling teen to a dad on diaper duty, the evening promises humour, wit and poignancy the audience can relate to.

The night of comedy is Monday, Jan. 27 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $30 plus facility fee. Call 780-459-1542 or purchase online at www.ticketmaster.ca.

Carrie runs until Saturday, Nov. 9. The theatre is located at the Centre for Arts and Communications on 10045 – 156 St. Tickets are $16.75 to $21.75. Call 780-420-1757 or purchase online at www.tixonthesquare.ca.

By day Piotr Grella-Mozejko works at St. Albert Allstate Insurance. But in the evening and weekends his creative spirit takes over.

Tonight the Canadian composer, researcher and multi-media artist performs at the Canadian Polish Music Festival’s two final concerts.

The two works he tackles are …about to dawn… in memoriam for B.K. Przybylski and Complex Simple Rhythms for string trio.

The feature headline act for the 6 p.m. concert is ATMA Trio, top tier chamber musicians who regularly perform in both the United States and Poland, and often break audience attendance.

The top bill for the 8:30 p.m. concert is the celebrated Penderecki String Quartet, one of the most celebrated string quartets of their generation.

The festival of music takes place at Stanley Milner Theatre at Edmonton Public Library, 7 Sir Winston Churchill Square. Admission ranges from $10 to $20. Children under 12 are admitted free. Call 780-420-1757 or online at www.tixonthesquare.ca.

The Concordia Symphony Orchestra opens its 2013-2014 masterpiece season with Romantic Verve on Sunday, Nov. 3.

Conducting the orchestral event is David Hoyt, a musician with impeccable credentials.

“He’s very expressive in leading the orchestra and very approachable. He’s also very knowledgeable about the score and very detailed,” said artistic director Danielle Lisboa.

The program centrepiece is Anton Bruckner’s Symphony No. 4 in E-flat major followed by Peter Maxwell-Davies’ Orkney Wedding.

“Bruckner is the core in terms of depth and emotional content. It’s technically challenging for the strings. It’s an exercise on keeping focus on the material. Maxwell-Davies, on the other hand, brings freshness and lightness and we end with it.”

Romantic Verve takes place at Concordia University College and starts at 2 p.m. Tickets are $12 to $15. Special family admission of $40 at the door only. Call 780-420-1757 or online at www.tixonthesquare.ca
