Following on the heels of their Grand Theft Improv Night, Go 4 Broke is giving the spooks their Halloween due.

This Friday night, the St. Albert based troupe flies across the Alberta Avenue stage with Paranormal IMPROVtivity.

“We’re switching things up and we want to do a parody of paranormal movies like Paranormal Activity, Ghostbusters and Insidious movies,” says spokesperson Sean Bedard.

In addition to Bedard, most of the cast is from St. Albert – Josh Languedoc, Ali Yusuf, Scott Pedrick, Tyler Dettling and Jeremy le Riche.

Last year the cast had done a zombie theme but this year opted for something different noted Bedard. Improv member Michael Gordon, originally from Lloydminster, a massive horror fan, is organizing this event.

“It’s about a married couple that move into a haunted house. The woman is already being stalked by a demon. To stop the demon stalking, the couple has to ignore it. But the ghosts living in the house are impossible to ignore. They move furniture and drive the married couple crazy,” Bedard chuckles.

The cast is hauling out a tickle trunk of costumes and accessories timed to pop up at the right moment.

Deliberate holes are planted into the plot to allow audience interaction.

“It gives the audience a sense they get to play the improv with us and it keeps them involved. Once they throw out suggestions, they get to see how the suggestions come to life.”

People are invited to dress up in Halloween costumes. Show starts at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 at the door, $8 for students. This is an 18+ show.

You never know who will be sitting beside you as the Morinville Community Cultural Centre gears up for A Little Murder on the Menu on Saturday, Oct. 26.

Produced by Vancouver’s Slixer Entertainment, this murder mystery scenario has actors dressed incognito circulating and mingling with patrons starting at the cocktail hour.

A detective leads the hunt for both the victim and criminal. Audience members figuratively slap on their deerstalker cap and try to outwit each other by guessing who is who.

“It’s all done with humour an wit. There are clues, newspaper clippings and autopsy reports available to people,” says Slixer founder Chris Hill. “And there’s a cataclysmic conclusion after the sheets are all in on who kills who and what the motivation was.”

Hill, who received his theatrical grounding at Mount Royal University’s theatre arts program, has invested 13 years into honing his skills and building an entertainment company.

The Edmonton region is one of his busiest centres.

“It’s all the oil money. Edmonton is the Alberta hub for culture. It’s a city that embraces live arts. It’s a cultural hotbed and people are always looking for fun things to do.”

Cocktails are served at 6 p.m. Dinner is at 7 p.m. Tickets $40. Call 780-420-1757 or online at www.tixonthesquare.ca.
