It’s been a nail-biting few weeks for Alex Zaichowski, 15. But Monday night YTV’s top-rated The Next Star revealed the Paul Kane student is one of six finalists vying for the crown.
In the next few weeks the six teen hopefuls will face a number of challenges to hone their original sound, style and stage presence.
A team of professionals will mentor the singers throughout the remaining episodes. The season finale concludes on Sunday, Sept. 22 where the winner takes home a $5,000 shopping spree, a one song recording deal and a guitar.
Tomorrow night, the Art Gallery of St. Albert plays host to Art Meets Words and Music, an evening of spoken word and melodies.
Organizer Christine Babiak says, “It gives people enlightenment. It allows them to explore the spoken word.”
The free event features poetry readings and musical performances from local artists. It runs 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
This coming week, the Sweet Adelines International Educational Symposium will be held at Grant MacEwan City Centre Campus.
Edmonton’s own Heartland Chorus is hosting the regional workshop from Aug. 15 to 18. On Saturday, Aug. 17, Alberta Heartland is putting on a concert at the campus. Performing in it are Sandee and Jenessa Blackburn, a mother-daughter duo from Morinville, and St. Albert residents Lil Fedechko and Tanya McGowan.
