One of Edmonton’s surprising little companies, Northern Light Theatre picks up the season with Jason Craig’s Space//Space.

In this experimental production, Craig designs two brothers floating in space as specimens of the past. They’ve been confined in small quarters for three years.

In that time Lumus has stayed awake to perfect a comedic stand-up routine while Penryn has been in a deep sleep. When he awakens he discovers he’s grown girl parts and Lumus’s teeth are falling out.

Not only are the brothers’ bodies changing, but their relationships are also altered forever. Critics have described previous shows as “funny, disturbing, beautiful and unexpectedly poignant.”

Directed by Trevor Schmidt, Space//Space features Nadien Chu and Trevor Duplessis playing the hapless astronauts blasted out of the universe into what could be a time capsule for extraterrestrial life.

Space//Space opens Nov. 21 for a nine-day run at ATB Financial Arts Barns, 10330-84 Ave. Tickets are $16 to $28. Two-for-one tickets are available, Tuesday, Nov. 25. Call 780-409-1910 or online at fringetheatre.ca.

Music spanning 600 years and 3,000-year-old poetry are the hallmarks of Chronos Vocal Ensemble’s season opener this coming Sunday at All Saints’ Anglican Church.

The program titled Fear and Trembling: Inspired by the Book of Psalms features choral composers from the Italian Renaissance, 19th century Germany, 20th century England and France, and contemporary Canada.

The singers are high-calibre artists and as conductor Jordan van Biert says, “This ensemble is amateur only in the strictest sense, doing a thing for the love of it.”

However, the ultimate goal is to reach professional status.

“We hope to impress with technical ability and a range of music in lots of languages. But I also believe the music will grab you and touch your soul.”

Fear and Trembling starts at 7:30 p.m. All Saints is at 10035 – 103 St. Advance tickets are $20/$15. Door pricing is $23/$18. Call 780-420-1757 or purchase online at tixonthesquare.ca.
