Back by popular demand, Ronnie Burkett, Canada’s Master of Marionettes, storms into the Citadel Theatre.
After a sold-out run in 2013, The Daisy Theatre is back with updated skits and an improv show featuring 30 marionettes.
Some of the returning favourites are Esme Massengill, Edna Rural, Jolie Jolie and Ina Klein. But Burkett also introduces new characters such as blues singer Randee Rivers, Lady Lolly Poppersniff, Prince Charming and the ventriloquist Meyer Lemon with his dummy Little Woody Linden.
Reviewers have dubbed the adult puppet show risqué, heartwarming and always funny.
Burkett, intrigued by puppetry since his adolescent years growing up in Medicine Hat, was inspired by the underground puppet theatre, particularly the subversive and irreverent “daisy” puppet shows that originated in Nazi-occupied Czechoslovakia.
John Alcorn creates music and sound effects for this zany and at times whimsical two-hour show.
The Dairy Theatre runs until Nov. 2 at The Club. Tickets start at $30. Call 780-425-1820 or purchase online at citadeltheatre.com.
Sabrina Thievin, owner of Sabrina’s Dance Instruction, along with The Black Key Trio are partnering to host an elegant, sensual evening of ballroom dance tonight at St. Albert’s Cornerstone Hall.
This is Thievin’s third ballroom escapade and this time she has partnered with SAIF as the charity of choice.
Passionate about gliding across the floor, Thievin’s goal is to have ongoing social ballroom events in St. Albert featuring live music.
There will also be a free 30-minute dance lesson at 7 p.m. followed by dancing from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Tickets are $15 per person at the door.
What are the most sought-after Arden shows this season? Fred Penner (Oct. 19), Lunch at Allen’s (Oct. 24) and Jill Barber (Nov. 7).
These three concerts are sold out and without a pipeline to the man upstairs, it will be virtually impossible to get tickets.
However, the Arden has a complete list of upcoming shows at www.ardentheatre.com.
