Holding down a musical career that has spanned four decades, recording 36 albums and travelling countless world tours has given Eric Bibb a compassionate and tolerant view of the world.

The American-born troubadour returns to the Arden Theatre to sing songs of hope from his new album on Thursday.

Jericho Road, a project that was several years in the making, solidifies his heartfelt journey as a true storyteller where blues, folk and world music collide at a crossroads.

Bibb, a strong admirer of Rev. Martin Luther King, urges people to follow in the footsteps of the biblical Good Samaritan and promote peace throughout the world.

On his website, Bibb writes, “The (record) title refers to the road between Jerusalem and Jericho where the Good Samaritan, a traveller of a despised race, stopped to help a stranger in need after better-off religious leaders had passed by and done nothing.”

“If the record has a theme that’s it in a nutshell: have a heart.”

The multiple Blues Music Awards winner and Grammy Award nominee will be joined by special guest, Montreal-based roots multi-instrumentalist Michael Jerome Browne.

Tickets are $40 plus facility fee. Call 780-459-1542 or purchase online at ticketmaster.ca

CBC Radio’s award winning sketch comedy show, The Irrelevant Show, returns to the Arden Theatre on Sept. 20 to tape a couple of new nationally syndicated shows.

Edmonton comedians Mark Meer, Donovan Workun, Jana O’Connor and Neil Grahn face off against each other in an evening of all-new comedy sketches and songs.

With live sound effects created in front of the audience’s eyes, the show’s topics range from everyday hum drum events to the surreal involving family, dating, relationships and the workplace.

The Irrelevant Show has won both a Canadian Comedy Award and a medal at prestigious New York festivals.

Tickets are $36.75. Call 780-459-1542 or purchase online at ticketmaster.ca.
