Set in the town of Flatt, Alta., the province’s geographical centre and home to the world’s largest compost heap, the loose script is set to initiate a weekend of pancake breakfasts, heap-climbing contests and slap poetry nights. It ends with a Flatt Singing Contest and Amateur Variety Night.

The weekend show features improv faves Mark Meer, Davina Stewart, Donovan Workun, Belinda Cornish, Cathleen Rootsaert, Jesse Gervais and St. Albert son Matt Alden to name a few.

Single admission tickets are $16. However, there are a limited number of weekend passes for $50 offering in-out privileges.

Tickets go on sale Friday, Sept. 12 at the Varscona box office, 10329-83 Ave. and are available all weekend. Tickets at the door are cash only. Passes are available now at 780-420-1757 or online at tixonthesquare.ca.

Accordions, cabarets, concerts, competitions and a dinner showcasing Alberta’s top accordionists are all on tap at the Accordion Extravaganza. From aspiring to professional musicians, the three-day fest is a shared music experience for musicians of every stripe.

Presented by the Edmonton Accordion Society from Sept. 12 to 14 at St. John’s Cultural Centre, the extravaganza kicks off with a family cabaret on Friday. Saturday has a full day of workshops, open stages and a free afternoon of non-stop entertainment.

The Saturday events peak with an evening dinner featuring national entertainers Jason Kodie, Alicia Baker and Michael Bridge.

On Sunday, the festival offers a pancake breakfast and later hosts The Squeeze Accordion Stars Competition – one category for youth and a second for adults.

Tickets can be purchased at the door or by calling 780-420-1757 or online at tixonthesquare.ca.
