You could almost say Vinok Worldance’s Klondyke Kapers are a prequel to Northlands’ more extravagant Klondike Days.
Taking place at The Chateau Louis Conference Centre on Wednesday, July 16, this high-spirited evening is a nostalgic trip down memory lane to the Gold Rush era.
Front and centre is an outdoor gourmet barbecue that grizzled miners would die for – and many did – followed by an hour of entertainment filled with show dancing and live music.
The Klondike was hooked on high-kicking cancan girls, the “scandalous” music hall dancers with long skirts and swirling petticoats that charmed an entire era in the 1890s.
Vinok is bringing it back with the same kind of zest and St. Albert dancer Paige Tirs is part of the chorus line.
“It’s fun, but exhausting. It’s nice to do a high-energy dance and play up the character,” says Tirs.
The professional dancer is also performing in a country and swing dance as well as a French Canadian Broom Dance using pick axes instead of brooms.
“We changed it to give it a more Klondike feel.”
And she’s also performing a solo tap dance while Klondike Liz MacInnis sings Ain’t She Sweet.
Vinok’s artistic director Leanne Koziak describes MacInnis’ smoky voice as very powerful.
“She’s fabulous. She has an amazing voice. She can work the tunes and she suits this kind of music. She has a great personality and we like to work with her. She really gets the audience going.”

Dragon’s Den, the popular CBC television reality show that makes mincemeat out of start-up entrepreneurs, is visiting St. Albert this Sunday, July 13.
One of the few to receive its blessing was Monjelico Jeans. The popular shopping destination celebrates its second anniversary and CBC will be on site doing in-store tapings and interviews.
In celebration, Monjelico Jeans is throwing a street party that brings together a fashion show, DJ music, salsa lessons, street zumba classes, and food trucks and vendors.
Perron Street will be closed from St. Anne Street to St. Michaels for the duration of the party from noon to 5 p.m.
