Morinville’s St. Jean Baptiste Festival once again shifts into high gear starting June 20 at the Ray McDonald Sports Centre.
During this three-day festival, Morinville Festival Society organizers have brought in the Rotary Rock ‘n Ride midway and will set up three music stages featuring amateur talent, up-and-coming artists and professional musicians.
The big event Friday night is Morinville Library Comedy Night featuring Lars Callieou, Scott Belford and Morinville’s own Wyatt Zieger performing at the Morinville Cultural Centre.
Saturday is family day with parade, show and shine, craft fair, pet activities, a basketball shootout, a fire department combat challenge and roller derby.
However, the evening showstopper is the A.C.F.A. country barbecue cabaret with Crystal Plamondon, a favourite Francophone chanteuse.
As the lights grow dimmer, the Morinville Festival Band led by Ed Bulger and featuring Rob Kaup and Christen Maslyk, take centre stage.
Sunday brings on the Jessica Martel Run, hamster races, a dog centre and the much- acclaimed Force Pro Wrestling Service.

In a much-requested sequel to the 2001 Citizen Plate, Teatro La Quindicina is presenting Lucy and Mr. Plate from June 19 to 28.
Ned Plate gets a chance to pay it forward when he meets a childhood friend Lucy on a beach in Hawaii and they quickly discover a shared upbringing in Mundare.
But as with any Stewart Lemoine-written and directed play, this production is anything but mundane.
Lucy and Mr. Plate stars Jeff Haslam as Ned, and Jana O’Connor as the damsel in distress.
Show times are 7:30 p.m. at Varscona Theatre. Tickets range from $16 to $30. Tuesday evening performances are pay-what-you-can. For reservations call 780-433-3399.
