It was a tough slog for all the St. Albert Idol competitors taking part at the St. Albert Lifestyle Expo last weekend.

Rising to the top was Damien Doris as the St. Albert Idol, Julia Nicholson as St. Albert Junior Idol and Kaitlyn Smith as St. Albert Kids’ Idol.

The big prize included a $500 video package for Doris, a $300 package for Nicholson and a $200 package for Smith.

Congrats to all the competitors.

As one of Edmonton’s finest jazz vocalists, Barbara Meyer is probably one of the area’s best-kept secrets.

A co-founder of the popular Alley Scat, she was also invited to perform at Montreal’s International Jazz Festival, Edmonton Jazz Festival and Expo ’86. Meyer has also had a long touring career in Europe and as a special guest at the United Nations Entertainment Tour to Cyprus and Israel.

A vocalist, pianist, accompanist, arranger and music director, Meyer puts all her talents to use for a special evening of Spring Jazz at Jeffrey’s CafĂ© and Wine Bar on Saturday, April 12.

Accompanying her is the incomparable Wes Yasiuk on guitar and St. Albert’s own dexterous John Taylor on bass. The music starts at 9 p.m. Jeffrey’s is at 9640 – 142 St. Call 780-451-8890 for reservations.

There was never a more poignant tale of star-crossed love than the Bard’s Romeo and Juliet. In its annual salute to Shakespeare, the Citadel Theatre presents this classic tale of tragedy.

Directed by Tom Wood (A Midsummer Night’s Dream), Romeo and Juliet runs until Sunday, April 27.

In this classic masterpiece, two young lovers fall victim to a generations-long family feud, and Wood explores how Romeo and Juliet were let down by their families.

The action-packed production features participants of the 2014 Citadel-Banff Centre Professional Theatre Program. The production also coincides with the 450th anniversary of Shakespeare’s birth, Wednesday, April 23.

Tickets start at $35. Call 780-425-1820 or purchase online at citadeltheatre.com.
