Matt Lauer of the Today Show called Robert Post “completely insane,” adding “I like him because he’s insane.”
Post is an internationally renowned children’s entertainer – an actor, mime, puppeteer, juggler, ventriloquist, stand up comedian and an improvising whirling dervish.
As one of his most ambitious characters, Pasquale the chef, he twirls plates, sticks spoons in his eyes and tries to resuscitate a floppy fish with an invisible defibrillator.
He’s danced the tango in Rockefeller Square, ridden mechanical bulls in Alberta and done a wave in front of Rome’s coliseum. He’s wickedly funny and young children to seniors across the world can’t get enough of his wacky humour.
Although his routines appear simple, his performances are a masterful example of a sophisticated imagination working in overdrive.
Post debuts his mixed bag of tricks at the Morinville Community Cultural Centre on Saturday, April 5 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 adults, $20 seniors and $10 students. They are available at 780-420-1757 or online at tixonthesquare.ca. The centre is located at 9502 – 100 Ave.
April is Jazz Appreciation Month and as a salute to this time-honoured tradition, a Jazz Brunch is held at the Edmonton Petroleum Club on Sunday, April 6.
As patrons enjoy a gourmet buffet menu created by the club’s executive chef Doreen Prei, a quartet of the area’s finest musicians get the groove going.
Chris Andrew on piano, Joel Gray on trumpet, Dan Skakun on drums and St. Albert’s own John Taylor on bass set out to salute the jazz world’s finest.
April was chosen in recognition of the birthdays of jazz greats such as Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Gerry Mulligan and Tito Puente.
The brunch is also an opportunity to learn more about improvisational jazz trio Medeski Martin and Wood along with guitar guru John Scofield. As headliners of the 2014 Edmonton International Jazz Festival, they will bring a plethora of jazz, funk, soul, rock and reggae to the bill.
Tickets start at $28. Call 780-420-2757 or go online to tixonthesquare.ca.
