The Arden Theatre’s family series is celebrating spring break with The Tate Move Project’s The Itch of the Golden Nit. It is an animation film made by kids for kids using art as the inspiration.
Thousands of drawings, sound effects and story ideas by children from across the United Kingdom make up the action-packed half-hour animation.
Brought together by Tate and the creative magic of Aardman Animations, it is best described as a surreal and spectacular adventure.
It follows 11-year-old Beanie on his mission to save his parents from Evil Stella and to return the Golden Nit to its rightful place in the heart of the sun, and of course he saves the universe.
The animated film runs Sunday, March 30 at 2 p.m. Guests can enjoy a free pre-show activity at 1 p.m. Tickets are $18/adults; $15/children and seniors. Call 780-459-1542 or purchase online at ticketmaster.ca
Spring is just around the corner and that means barbecues and fresh veggies. Author Jennifer Cockrall-King, one of Edmonton’s premier food writers, is popping down to the St. Albert Public Library tomorrow to talk about urban agriculture.
An independent journalist for many of Canada’s top magazines and periodicals, Cockrall-King wrote Food and the City: Urban Agriculture and the New Food Revolution.
Released in 2012, the book discuses how urban agriculture including community gardens are an integral part of the food system developing in cities across the globe. The extensive research spanned Canada, parts of Europe and Cuba engaging producers who were trying to shorten the food chain.
Cockrall-King will give a talk running from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Preregistration is requested for this free event. Drop by the second floor information desk or call 780-459-1682.

As an added bonus, the winner of the Lifestyle Expo Idol will be automatically entered for the O’Maille’s finals in May.
O’Maille’s grand prize win is an electric Budweiser guitar and a three-song demo from ThePit Studio. All finalists will receive golf passes.
To participate just show up on Thursday nights and register. Singers can compete multiple times.
