The world-renowned Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo returns to the Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium on Jan. 16 and 17 as part of an extensive North American tour.

The Trocks’ big forte is dance parody with a delicious twist on two ballets – Swan Lake and Paquita. Their pointe work is top notch and the over-the-top acrobatic comedy is sidesplitting.

Tickets start at $29. Call 780-428-6839 or online at ticket.albertaballet.com.

Innovations Music is opening up a book of fairytales for its first annual fundraiser dubbed The Enchanted Forest dessert gala and silent auction.

“The productions we do have become more and more elaborate in terms of sets and costumes, and we found we needed more money to put back in the shows,” said Visionary College director Martha Livingstone.

Princess Elsa (Jessy Mossop), Snow White (Lauren Blench), Jasmine (Miranda Guimond) and Aladdin (Kurt Drachenburg) are just a few of the characters from Disney’s Magic Kingdom that will show up for an evening of song.

In addition to hosting duties, Andrew Boyd will also sing a series of musical theatre excerpts.

“Andrew did an event for us last year. He was so good and so funny we had to invite him back.”

The fundraiser is Friday, Jan. 16 at Lexus South Pointe 100 St. It starts at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 and are available at Innovations Music. Call 780-460-4400 or at #30 – 580 St. Albert Trail.

Anyone want to be an honorary Newfie? Newfoundland musician Stan Gallant, also known to pub-crawlers as “Salty Beef,” a Newfie nickname for extremely fatty brisket preserved in salt, is back with another screech-in.

Costumed in a sou’wester (wide-brimmed rain hat) and rubber boots, Gallant invites folks to come to the stage and kiss a frozen cod. Whoever puckers up becomes an honorary Newfie complete with a certificate.

“Some people root for their friends and you see a few squeamish faces. We usually get a few more people after they’ve had two or three drinks,” Gallant said.

He noted that at his last performance at O’Maillie’s, about 25 brave souls became honorary Newfies.

The event runs Jan. 16 and 17 at 9 p.m. No cover charge.

The Calgary Stampede’s Nashville Northstar finalist Amie Weymes & The Atta Boys play their first gig in the city this coming Friday night at LB’s Pub.

Since moving to the area from Ireland in 2012, Weymes established herself as a solo performer. However, by Halloween 2014, she teamed up with Terral London (guitar), Markus Bykowski (bass) and Paul Roberts (drums) to form Atta Boys.

This fresh powerhouse specializes in classic rock, modern country and some pop.

“We’re a new band but we’re not strangers to the stage,” said Weymes adding that she has sung professionally for seven years and her musicians have about 20 years experience performing in other bands.

Music starts at 9:30 p.m. No cover charge.
