The Anne Burrows Music Foundation plays a special role in advancing the careers of renowned child prodigies such as Angela Cheung.
Once again the Opus concerts are the foundation’s opportunity to showcase its scholarship recipients on Tuesday, Dec. 27 at Giovanni Yamaha Concert Hall.
This year there are 12 young scholarship recipients. In addition, six past recipients are slated to perform, including vocalists Alexandra von der Ohe and Carrie Dimaculangan as well as violinists Angelina Weber and Ewald Cheung, double bassists Taddes Korris and percussionist Karl Schwonik. They will perform works ranging from Duke Ellington and Beyonce to Giacomo Puccini and Sergei Prokofiev.
The event’s music director, St. Albert’s Michael Massey, a concert pianist in his own right, will also perform with the participating recipients.
Concert tickets are $25 and are available at the door or by calling 780-487-5567 or by email at [email protected].
Showtime is at 6:30 p.m. Giovanni Yamaha is at 10528 Mayfield Rd.
Regardless of rain, snow, sleet, hail or special holidays, Mark Ammar’s Tuesday Moosehead Blues Jam just keeps chugging along.
This coming Tuesday, Ammar has pulled together a few cronies, musicians who have been major players in St. Albert’s live music scene.
Simon Bennett (acoustic guitar/vocals), with his raw, high-energy stage presence, was a major building block by opening the now defunct Castlerock stage to a wave of musicians.
Dale Collins (guitar) was actually one of the most influential people in Ammar’s life.
“He was the first guy to get me a drum kit and he was a best friend whom I spent over 30 years tweaking ideas and working on original tunes,” Ammar says.
Dale Prinn, (guitar/vocals), now a B.C. resident, is back to energize the stage with his brand of folk/rock blues.
Norm Henze (guitar/vocals), also a mainstay at Castlerock, has brought an original vibe to numerous open stages in St. Albert. And Gord Macdonald (bass guitar/vocals), frontman for Coast 44, like Henze, has been one of the busiest house musicians in town.
The open jam at LB’s Pub starts at 9 p.m. No cover.
