Playwright David Haas has written a new psychological thriller that St. Albert Theatre Arts Guild (STAGE) would like to stage in the near future.

The Visitor is a story of “an older woman who is cast by her town as being crazy. It’s well written with lots of surprises,” says director Stanley Haroun who is keeping the meat and potatoes of the plot under wraps.

The play’s eight characters are a mix of male and female ranging from 20 to 70 years. Their occupations range from journalist, doctor and psychologist to friend, army officer and air force pilot.

A script will be provided and actors will have an opportunity to study it and familiarize themselves with the characters.

Auditions are on Sunday, Dec. 4 from 1 to 4 p.m. at St. Albert United Church on Green Grove Dr. For more information call Haroun at 780-940-9908.

The Ukrainian Male Chorus of Edmonton is partnering with Mission Hill Brass, All-City Youth Choir, Quartetto Con Brio and Tenor Power for its annual Christmas concert.

Throughout A Festive Mosaic, the 30-member choir will take turns performing songs with each group and casually blending Ukrainian and European traditions.

Diversity is key for the choir, says conductor Orest Soltykevych. By day Soltykevych is an assistant principal at Percy Page high.

“It’s not just one choir, but it’s more like a variety show,” Soltykevych says.

The choir is pairing with Mission Hill Brass Band for O Holy Night and with All-City Youth Choir for Christmas Angels.

They join hands with Quartetto Con Brio for the Ukrainian sacred song Dyvnaga Novyna (Mysterious News of the Birth), and Tenor Power sings an arrangement of Panis Angelicus arranged by Willi Zwozdesky.

Tickets for A Festive Mosaic are $15 for adults and $10 for youth 10 to 15. Children under 10 are free. Call 780-499-0422 or email [email protected].
