It’s guitarist Charlie DeShane’s birthday and Mark Ammar, host of the Tuesday Moosehead BarsnBands Open Stage is gearing up to honour this long-time musician.
A staple in The Herbs, DeShane has developed an easy playing style that makes for a very clean tone.
“He works all the controls on his guitar switching pick ups and using his volume control to make a slide effect I haven’t seen too many do,” says Ammar.
Accompanying him is Paul Finn, a well-travelled touring blues bass player and guitarist. For years this double threat musician worked with Calgary blues legend Bill Dowey and now “lights fires” fronting the Paul Finn Blues Band.
The BarsnBands Open Stage is next Tuesday at LB’s Pub, 23 Akins Dr. It starts at 9 p.m. No charge.
Although a relatively young troupe on the Edmonton scene, Wishbone Theatre has carved a reputation for artful, elegant and imaginative productions.
Following the successful Falling: A Wake, Wishbone returns with Samuel Beckett’s absurdist play Waiting for Godot running Feb. 2 through to Feb. 11 at Westbury Theatre.
In this two-hour existentialist play, two characters, Vladimir and Estragon, wait endlessly and in vain for their friend Godot to meet them today, tomorrow or the next.
Directed by Chris Bullough, it features Nathan Cuckow, Farren Timoteo, Glenn Nelson, George Szilagyi and Ty Hatt.
Nightly performances start at 8 p.m. with 2 p.m. matinees on Feb. 4 and 11. Tickets are $23 for adults and $19 for students/seniors/equity members. Tickets are available at 780-409-1910 or online at www.fringetheatre.ca
