Skillet - two chefs, two dinners

St. Albert's XIX Nineteen Restaurant introduces chef Andrew Fung for an international dinner while Wild Rose Elementary School's dinner fundraiser brings in MasterChef Trevor Connie.

XIX Nineteen

Due to the super success of St. Albert XIX Nineteen's first international dinner, the fusion restaurant is embarking on a second feast.
This time the country of choice is Spain. The evening features a Spanish menu accompanied by the Mediterranean country's wines. Sommelier Marcia Hamm of Hicks Fine Wines will select rich blends from various regions.
XIX's executive chef, owner and operator Andrew Fung has dreamt up a fabulous five-course menu that includes smoked scallops, braised beef short rib stew, brie and asiago arancini and leg of lamb.
Completing the dinner is a mouth-watering sweet, a cheesecake dulce de leche. Throughout the evening, a flamenco guitarist will serenade guests with Spain's stunning showcase of rhythms.
The dinner starts at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday Oct. 26. XIX is located at 150 Bellerose Dr. Tickets are $150 each (includes gratuity and GST). Call 780-569-1819 to reserve.
Wild Rose Elementary
Similar to many schools across St. Albert, Wild Rose Elementary School is fundraising for extras. This year the school's parent society has hit on the novel idea of hosting a four-course dinner executed by a MasterChef Canada winner.
The Edmonton-based Trevor Connie, a former plumber-gasfitter and culinary aficionado, won the title of MasterChef Canada on the hit television series Season 4 finale.
Upon his return he went on to advance his craft under head chef Daniel Costa at downtown Edmonton's Corso 32.
For the Wild Rose fundraiser, Connie has planned a salad, two mains and a dessert. The four-course dinner also includes a series of wine pairings for each serving.
Adrianna Greenwood, treasurer for the Wild Rose Parent Society said, "Our focus is to buy new gym equipment, library resources, and for fine arts to bring in an opera."
The school is hoping to raise $10,000 throughout the year hosting various fundraisers.
"This is our largest event and the first public one to include the community."
The dinner will be held on Friday, Nov. 3 at 6:30 p.m. in the St. Albert Community Hall, 17 Perron St. Tickets are $100 per person. Call the school at 780-460-3737 or 780-886-3677.
