The St. Albert Cruisers held another successful Autorama event at the end of the May, but at the end of the day, the glorious classic car show doubled up as a massive fundraiser. The Cruisers presented St. Albert Stop Abuse in Families with a cheque for $12,300 to be used for the Elder Abuse Response Program.
The organization then went on to host its annual Dave Hanson Memorial Golf Tournament last week. That's where the day started off with a magical sinker for one lucky local woman.
"Tracy Dalzell-Heise successfully made a hole in one with her first golf swing of the day," said Caroline Smigielski, the newly installed executive director of the SAIF Society.
And speaking of hot rods …
The volunteer drivers and riders raised more than $500,000 for Racing for a Cure. The annual event allows people to pay for rides in some exotic and super cars driven by their owners, including St. Albert's own Rick Murti.
This total now puts the event at the $2.25-million mark for fundraising for local children's charities. This year, proceeds are going to the Kids with Cancer Society.

Baseball tournament for the kids
The sixth annual Tyler Bunz Get Kids Playing Slo-Pitch Tournament wraps up today at Meadowview Diamonds. That's where 16 teams are competing for glory, but it's the kids themselves who come out as winners. The event, sponsored by Landrex, runs as a fundraiser for the St. Albert KidSport chapter.
KidSport works to remove financial barriers that prevent kids from playing organized sports. It raises funds and then offers grants to their parents who need help paying for registration fees and sports equipment.
Since it started its local chapter in 2014, St. Albert KidSport has funded more than $110,000 in sport registration fees, giving hundreds of children access to sports they would otherwise not be able to play. Nearly 150 children received KidSport sponsorships in this city alone. There are 40 chapters across the province, and hundreds throughout the country.

Barbecue to help Little Warriors
COBS Bread is having its grand reopening today. After doing a major renovation, there's nothing better than having a barbecue with some friends and then throwing a little family-friendly party. Making it a fundraiser for Little Warriors is just icing on the cake.
Little Warriors is the national charitable organization that's committed to the awareness, prevention and treatment of child sexual abuse. It also operates the Be Brave Ranch, a one-of-a-kind facility for children between eight and 12 who have been sexually abused.
The event features a bouncy castle and face-painting (from noon to 3 p.m.) for the kids, with Starbucks for the older folks. The NOW! Trucksicle will also be there with free popsicles for the masses. They will also be collecting for a bottle drive with all proceeds going to the charity.
COBS Bread is located in Gateway Village at 2 Hebert Rd. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
