The Amazing Race is packed with adventure, risk and the ultimate grab for that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.
After hours and hours of planning, Rendezvous organizers for St. Albert’s 150th anniversary picnic have come up with a competition geared to intrigue and challenge teens and young adults.
The 150th anniversary Amazing Scavenger Hunt set for Sunday, Aug. 28 will run twice, at 1 and 3 p.m. It will start at Kingswood Park and challenges will extend to Woodlands Water Play Park.
Ten teams with up to five players per team will compete against each other. There will be a mass start with 10 timed challenges. “They must complete the tasks in any order in two hours or less. But they can’t split the team,” says Abi Iskander, youth liaison for the 150th anniversary committee.
The youth committee came upon the idea while brainstorming ideas for fun activities that would appeal to St. Albert’s teenage demographic.
“We thought this was a sweet idea. We’ve seen this on TV and we thought it would be cool if people participated in it,” Iskander says.
And the coolest part is the prizes. The first place team wins $300, second place receives $200 and third place gets $100. All competitors receive movie passes.
Registration for the two races is one hour before each race – 12 noon and 1 p.m. – on a first come, first serve basis. Registration booths will be set up in Kingswood Park.
Although Iskander was keeping the challenges under her hat, picnic event co-ordinator Cheryl Mackenzie hinted, “It’s going to be a wet and wild afternoon.”
