Glorious and Free – A Celebration of Canada is the new exhibit arriving just in time for the country’s sesquicentennial. Exhibiting artists include Andrew Raczynski, Douglas Fraser, Helen Rogers, Jori Warren, Jun Toyama, Kristin Anderson, Kristine McGuinty, Luise Mendler-Johnson, Marilynn Jeffery, Rick Rogers, Shelby Willis, Sharon Moore-Foster, and Suzan Berwald. Opening reception to be held on Thurs., July 6 from 6 to 9 p.m. in conjunction with the July ArtWalk. Artists will be in attendance. Until Sat., July 29.

Take Your Best Shot is the museum’s annual youth photo exhibit, being shown now instead of in the late autumn, to coincide with Canada Day. The show’s theme is My Canada. Also features contributions from members of the St. Albert Photography Club. Until Sun., Sept. 10.

The youth gallery features the work of Bellerose High School student Noah Dewitt, this year’s winner of the Elsa Zahar award. His winning artwork called What’s Up?, a fun and funky portrait of a guitar player done with a black marker, will also be featured in the Art Gallery of St. Albert’s 2018 catalogue and on the invitation to High Energy 23 to be held next spring. The Works Art and Design Festival runs from June 22 to July 4. Taking place at Churchill Square and 40 locations throughout downtown Edmonton, the festival features dozens upon dozens of artists in 50 exhibits and 300 special events including live performances, tours, receptions and demonstrations. www.theworks.ab.ca

St. Albert’s ArtWalk takes place on the first Thursday of each month from May to September. There are eight venues including WARES, St. Albert Public Library, MusĂ©e HĂ©ritage Museum, A Boutique Gallery Bar By Gracie Jane, Art Gallery of St. Albert (and its Rental and Sales Gallery), Bookstore On Perron, VASA Gallery, and The Collective.
