It’s autumn and all of the leaves on the trees are changing colours (right before they leave the trees permanently).

That’s the same motif that the St. Albert Painters’ Guild is taking for its upcoming fall art show, set to take over the foyer of St. Albert Place this weekend. Don’t expect to see a bunch of paintings featuring red, yellow and orange trees, however.

“Changing Colours doesn’t necessarily just mean the leaves,” explained guild past president Betty Tessier. “There can be changing colours in just about anything, abstract-wise or whatever.”

There are approximately three-dozen artists who are set to participate in the group’s semi-annual effort. Joining them will be two of the three St. Albert high school students who received scholarships from the organization earlier this year. Those scholarships enabled them to attend the Summerscapes program at Red Deer College during the summer.

Tessier said that there would be something for everyone, as there will be a wide variety of different media and styles and subject matter. The list of participants includes such recognizable names as Mike Dendy, Peg McPherson, Samantha Williams-Chapelsky and Tom Steele. She added that there are several new names that have been added to the fold.

“Some of these new artists are very good,” she enthused.

The Painters Guild Fall Art Show and Sale runs from 9 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 17 and ends at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 19. The opening night reception runs from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday with many artists and dignitaries in attendance.
