These are busy days for St. Albert’s arts community, with the inaugural ArtiCulture festival last weekend and now the St. Albert Painters’ Guild taking over city hall this weekend.
St. Albert Place is the popular venue for the group’s annual spring show and sale. It’s a prime opportunity to showcase the talent and dedication of the guild’s 80 members. One of those is Memory Roth.
“The ArtiCulture show was just great. It was very exciting,” she enthused. “I’m really happy with the way things are coming.”
Roth was one of the participating artists for the Live, Work and Play Art Exhibit as well as one of the contributors to Alberta Bouquet, the 204-piece mural created to celebrate the four-day festival. This must make her one of the city’s most popular artists of late, especially when you consider that she also just commanded a solo show — her first — to open up Heaven Essence Spa last month.
Roth just became a member of the guild last year but this week’s show and sale means as much or more to her as all her recent activities. She’s one of the organizers, meaning she’s had to put her busy brushes down, at least for now.
“I have a lot more work to do. As soon as these shows are done I’m going to get at it again, get back into my studio.”
Attendees at the spring show can also vote for the People’s Choice Award, a time-honoured tradition that gives the viewers the chance to express their inner art critic. Apart from various demonstrations, there will also be a raffle draw to win a painting from guild artists Judy Schafers, Peg McPherson and Carol Rose.
The St. Albert Painters’ Guild provides its members with support and learning opportunities through workshops, classes and symposiums. Its members often help out with the city’s other art projects, programs and festivals like Live, Work and Play and the International Children's Festival.
