Exactly a two decades ago in a small Scottish town, a bunch of lads started a metal band with songs about pirates. The band was called Battleheart, but they had no idea what they were doing.

As luck would have it, they developed a following and by 2007 they were signed by Naplam Records. After changing the band name to Alestorm, it was signed to a five-album deal. By supporting famous bands such as Turisas, Sabaton, Dragonforce and Eluveitie, Alestorm was soon playing at the most prestigious metal festivals in Europe.

Their popularity spread across Europe and to North America. With a series of albums including No Grave But the Sea (2017), Curse of the Crystal Coconut (2020), Live in Tilbury (2021) and Seventh Rum of Seventh Rum (2023) their reputation as the world’s best pirate metal band heightens.

With a stable lineup of Christopher Bowes (vocals), Mate Bodor (guitars), Gareth Murdock (bass), Elliot Vernon (keyboards), and Peter Alcorn (drums), Alestorm is on a four-city tour of Western Canada that includes a top at Edmonton’s Midway Music Hall on April 5, 2024.
