The City of St. Albert’s cultural services announces that the Mayor’s Celebration of the Arts is collaborating with Night of Artists for a three-day festivity.
The sixth annual Mayor’s Arts Awards launches the joint partnership on Friday, March 6 at the Enjoy Centre. It is followed on Saturday and Sunday with Night of Artists showcasing 500 plus original works of art, live music, choral singing and fire-hot opera.
Night of Artists producer Phil Alain started a dialogue with cultural services last year after noticing that NOA was held one week apart from the Mayor’s Arts Awards.
“We have the same audience and we both incorporate all aspects of the arts. Instead of just having two separate shows, why not be surrounded by a sea of artists,” says Alain speaking from Florida where he is on vacation.
Kelly Jerrott, director of cultural services, added that it made sense to combine resources and knowledge.
“It’s a way for both of us to expand our audience. Bring the groups together in a collaboration is a win-win for both groups and a big win for the community,” Jerrott says.
While the Friday night awards ceremony enjoys an eclectic showcase of talent in addition to recognizing excellence and artistic integrity, the Saturday-Sunday portion mixes a visual art show and sale, trendy appetizers, fire-juggling and gypsy jazz.
“We get music fans coming to support music and they discover great art, and we get art fans enticed by the art and enjoy different kinds of music,” notes Alain.
Tickets for the Mayor’s Celebration of the Arts are $35 which also includes entry into NOA on Friday evening and Saturday-Sunday during the day. They are available at the Arden box office at 780-459-1542 or ticketmaster.ca.
