Leo Lionni’s Swimmy, Frederick & Inch by Inch is the tale of an insignificant fish in a vast ocean that uses his smarts to evade danger. Frederick, a poet mouse from the tip of his nose to the end of his tail, makes life an art-filled experience, and Inch is an inchworm that measures absolutely everything.
Their worlds come together in a forest of seaweeds and a jungle where 10-ft. tall flamingos roam.
Swimmy, Frederick & Inch by Inch runs Sunday, Feb. 20 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $18 to $20. Call 780-459-1542 or online at www.ticketmaster.ca.
Tonight two St. Albert dancers, Lauren O’Kell and Jevan Joseph of Citie Ballet, leap into the air for Community Spirit 7, a fundraiser for the Youth Emergency Shelter Society.
Organized by Citie, the fundraiser has attracted the talents of eight dance schools, including the St. Albert Ballet Academy. Most of the choreographed works are competition pieces in the ballet, lyrical, modern and classical genre.
Every year Community Spirit fundraises for a different youth-based organization. Last year the event raised $5,000 for iHuman, a society that supports youth at risk.
Francois Chevennement, artistic director of Citie says, “I’m really concerned about kids. The Youth Emergency Shelter helps street kids. As a father, I hope it would never happen to my kids. Children are the future and this is why Community Spirit is an important response.”
It is presented at the Eva O. Howard Theatre, Victoria School of the Arts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $12 to $25. Call 780-420-1757, online at www.tixonthesquare.ca or at the door.

Joining him is Glen Harder, another St. Albert resident, who plays both guitar and bass and whose current gig is The Anger Management Orchestra. Also on tap is Bruce Shaw, a classically trained pianist and keyboard player influenced by Pink Floyd, Rush and Nightwish.
The open stage is this Tuesday at 9 p.m. at LB’s Pub. No cover charge.
