Five days ago Stereos new sophomore album, Uncontrollable, was released through Universal Music and the boys are lapping up the attention.
This time around the quintet’s 10-track CD expands on their unique blend of R&B, hip-hop, reggae, rock, metal and punk.
“With this album, we’ve been writing with more of a club/dance vibe. We’ve been exposed to that scene and it’s really interesting. It’s definitely an influence on this album,” reveals lead singer Pat Kordyback.
The St. Albert High School alumnus adds, “We’re also writing more for our age, not that we’re trying to alienate anyone. We’re honing and refining. It still sounds like Stereos, but much more like how Stereos actually is.”
Their first self-titled single is receiving serious airplay across the country’s mainstream radio stations. And with the band’s tongue-in-cheek humour and raucous revelry, there are adventuresome tunes such as the bouncy Girls In the Club back-to-back with the slower, heartfelt A Lot Like You.
“The album, especially the title song, is incredibly different than everything else we’ve ever created,” Kordyback says. “It sits completely on its own; it speaks for the band so well on many levels like how our future is uncontrollable or how people see you as uncontrollable.”

“Merry Christmas to you all,” says Mark Ammar, host of Mark Ammar's Tuesday Moosehead Open Stage.
In keeping with Christmas, Ammar celebrates the holiday by bringing back a few old friends to heat up the weekly blues jam. Rich Stenson, Yuji Hara and Dave Berry are this week’s featured personalities.
“Rich is a very familiar face on the Edmonton music scene. He’s known for his impeccable timing and incredible feel for the groove. And Yuji is one of the most sought after guitarists in Edmonton.”
Berry, formerly of Saskatchewan has opened shows for Jordan Cook, Colin James and the late Jeff Healy. Although a skilled drummer, “On this night, Dave will be fronting guitar and vocals and bringing high energy blues to our Moosehead stage.”
LB’s is located at 23 Akins Drive. The jam starts at 9 p.m. There is no cover charge.
