Once again the VIP Kids’ Show, short for very important person, kicks off today at the Varscona Theatre for four Saturdays of fun.
Each 45-minute show highlights a special theme. Since it’s the day before Halloween, kids are invited to dress up in their favourite gear and join in the costume parade.
Davina Stewart, Donovan Workun, Dana Andersen, Cathy Derkach and St. Albert Children’s Theatre alumna Kate Ryan have a jam-packed morning planned with music, comedy, puppets and special guests.
In addition, the VIP Kids’ Show also runs Nov. 6, Dec. 11 and Dec. 18. Show time is at 11 a.m. The Varscona is located at 10329 – 83 Ave. Tickets are $5. Advance tickets available at 780-420-1757 or online at www.tixonthesquare.ca. Cash only at the door.
Mark Ammar, host of Ammar’s Open Stage Jam, invites Jared Sowan, one of Alberta’s aboriginal music heroes, back for a cool night of jamming the blues.
Sowan, a one-man band on keyboards, guitar, bass and drums, has performed extensively, including at the Vancouver Olympics. “The vocal tone and emotion in his voice is like no other, opening fans’ eyes and ears every time he hits the mike,” says Mark Ammar.
Sharing the stage is the groove-based bass player Rich Stenson, a co-host at JR’s jam, and Charlie Deshane, a regular with Danny Hooper. “The rest of the time, he’s the guitar doctor at Axe Music.”
The jam is on Tuesday, Nov. 2 at 9 p.m. at LB’s Pub, 23 Akins Drive. There is no cover charge.
The hottest tickets in town are for The Trews with opening act Tim Chaisson and Morning Fold coming to the Arden Theatre on Tuesday, Nov. 12.
As of yesterday, the Arden box office reported there were only a dozen tickets left and predictions are they’ll fly off the shelf by the beginning of next week.
The show starts at 8 p.m. and tickets are $30. Call 780-459-1542 or online at www.ticketmaster.ca
