Vancouver’s thrash metal band Omega Crom is on their Summer Shred Canadian Tour in support of their first and long-awaited album dubbed Blood, Steel and Fire.

Although they’d never visited St. Albert before their first album tour in March, they’ve booked a second gig for Thursday, July 29 in a 24-city national tour that takes them as far as Montreal and Sherbrooke.

Omega Crom has developed an explosive signature style that features topical songs with blistering guitar riffs and a driving blast beat enhanced by technical complexity and speed.

Perhaps the best man to describe the Omega Crom musical experience is lead singer Johnny Ketlo who says, “It’s like Judas Priest on steroids.”

Opening for Omega Crom is Drown Her in the Massacre and The Dead Cold. The Taphouse is at 9020 McKenney Avenue. Show time is 9:30 p.m.

The smash hit Mamma Mia! based on the songs of ABBA composed by Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus comes to the Jubilee Auditorium on Tuesday, September 28 and runs through to Sunday, October 3.

This feel-good jukebox musical of feminine relationships celebrated seven sold-out years at the Winter Garden Theatre on Broadway and is currently on a national Canadian tour.

Sophie is about to get married and would like to ask her father to walk her down the aisle. But he could be any one of three men her mother had an affair with before she settled on an idyllic Greek island to raise her daughter alone without their knowledge.

Although the plot is pretty lame, for many theatre patrons it’s all about 25 great ABBA hits such as Dancing Queen, I Have a Dream, Money Money, and Take a Chance on Me.

Tickets start at $59. They are available at any Ticketmaster outlet including the Arden box office. Call 780-451-8000 or online at www.ticketmaster.ca.
