The Edmonton International Street Performers Festival, with artists blowing in from across the world, runs July 9 to 18 at Sir Winston Churchill Square.
The merry mayhem features more than 150 shows daily with a vibrant cast of jugglers, sword swallowers, clowns, stilt walkers, circus performers, singers and a cartoonist.
Global street performance highlights include New Zealand’s primo juggler Basketball Jones, Italian circus acrobat Rudi Macaggi, United Kingdom clown Fraser Hooper and Miss Pandora Pink, an Australian rock ‘n’ roll bubble gum princess who manipulates cigar boxes.
Also adding a lively curve to the festival are face painters Cindy Lou, Jacquie Paul, Lady Dolphin, Mia and P’Wan, along with balloon twisters Pretzel and Dan the Balloon Man.
Don’t miss musician Herbi Treehead and roving artists Jan Streader, Heather Swain and Linda Karenko.
The 10-day event once again spawns Kid’s World, a series of daily activities for the young from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. And for the older crowd there’s Late Night Madness, a zany one-of-a-kind cabaret on July 16 and 17 starting at 11:11 p.m. at the Stanley Milner Library.
Street performances are free, however since artists make a living by passing the hat, patrons are encouraged to be generous.
