In their 10th anniversary season, Citie Ballet has invited more than a dozen alumni to strut their stuff.
Tonight at the Eva O. Howard Theatre at the Victoria School of Performing Arts, the Ukrainian Shumka Dancers along with the University of Alberta Orchesis take the stage along with alumni dancers Jarrett Siddal, Andrea Gregorio, Sarah Reid, Cyrstal Hartford, Scott Maybank and St. Albert’s Elise Seehagel, 22.
Under the direction of Francois Chevennement, Citie presents La Vivandiere from the French ballet repertoire, E’Espoir choreographed by William Thompson and Women in the Mirror and Once Upon a Pond, both choreographed by Chevennement.
Seehagel, who once dreamed of making a living on pointe, decided after a stint at Alberta Ballet’s summer school that ballet was not the right fit.
At the urging of her parents, she checked out Arthur Murray’s and has not stopped since. Now a teacher at the school, she and her partner Rory Pidgeon, also of St. Albert, are working to refine their competition technique.
“I love the rhythms and the costumes. It’s fun. It’s different. It’s classic,” says Seehagel. For the Citie performance, the dance partners are planning a ballroom piece and a Latin number.
“It will be nice to go back, see old friends and show them what I’m doing. It’ll be a high-energy show with something for everyone.”
The show starts at 8 p.m. The Eva O. Howard Theatre is at 101 Street and Kingsway Avenue. Tickets range from $15 to $25. Call 780-420-1757 or visit www.tixonthesquare.ca for tickets.
Chris Craddock is one of those rare actors with enough talent, experience and savvy to pull off a one-man show. He has just penned Public Speaking and will be running a workshop presentation at the Roxy Theatre on June 25 and 26 at 8 p.m.
Craddock takes on the roles of a kidnapper, a rich and famous victim, a homeless man and a self-help guru.
Tickets cost between $12 and 15. The Roxy is at 10708 – 124 St. Call 780-453-2440 or visit www.theatrenetwork.ca to purchase tickets.
