Meese Clothing has just confirmed their annual rendezvous with a tented fashion show on Tuesday, Aug. 30, at their St. Albert location.
The fifth annual Fall Forward Fashion Show, a series of collections exclusively from 15 Canadian designers, reveals 30 new outfits.
During the half-hour show, 10 models with sizes from two to 16 will display a mixed bag of styles from both men’s and women’s clothing lines.
Tressa Heckbert, co-owner of Meese, is making public her new collection Nomad under the house label Sessa. Inspired by a trip to Mexico last year, Heckbert was enraptured by the lifestyle of the vaqueros, or Mexican cowboys.
“I loved the different textures, the different braiding, the women’s old blankets and the bright, bold colours.”
Juxtaposing this vivid energy against the more prim, subdued English horse riders, Heckbert devised Nomad. Her women’s line has long riding style skirts, high-waisted pants and jumpsuits. In the men’s line, tops have suede cowl necks, casual-style blazers and elbow patches.
Kelsey McIntyre of Fort Saskatchewan will also be attending with her well-known Serendipity collection. “Kelsey designs beautiful dresses with classic lines. She also teaches the history of costumes at Marvel [College] and she’s inspired by period pieces,” says Meese co-owner Evan Sterling.
Another local designer is Alisha Schick of Edmonton, showing her Suka collection. “She’s more into urban street wear. It’s more edgy and she has more rivets and exposed zippers.”
The catered evening of hors d’oeuvres, wine and live music starts seating at 6:30 p.m. The fashion show begins at 7 p.m. RSVP to 780-418-1388 or [email protected].
Although the evening is free, please bring a donation for the St. Albert Food Bank. Meese is at 31D Perron St.
When the fashion show is over, just take a trip down to LB’s for Ammar’s Tuesday Night Jam.
Gordie Matthews — once dubbed by harmonica player Rusty Reed as “one of Alberta’s most treasured guitar players” — is hitting the stage.
In addition to providing studio backup for numerous high-profile singers, the St. Albert resident toured with k.d. lang for years, as well as being one of Ian Tyson’s longtime sidemen.
Known for his great guitar tone, a technique refined over two decades in the industry and a breezy ability to slide around notes, whether on electric or acoustic, Matthews is a much sought-after talent. “I look forward to having Gordie back for a night,” says host Mark Ammar.
Joining him is bassist Neil Van Dijjk, a musician raised on Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and Rush. Van Dijjk, who dabbles in recording original music, is also a member of The Tomatoes, a St. Albert band known for its classic rock covers.
“They have been together for 30 years and have a great following.”
The jam starts at 9 p.m. LB’s Pub is located at 23 Akins Dr. No cover.
