Fast becoming a popular fixture at Jeffrey’s CafĂ© and Wine Bar in Edmonton, Barbara Leah Meyers brings a fresh vitality to the jazz scene.
After two decades of singing jazz charts in Europe, the St. Albert resident has mastered the intricacies of various grooves from pelting swing to soft ballads and everything in between.
At times the rhythms burn with a painful fire. At other times she sings such a subtle groove, you float away. But always she expresses the deepest emotion through music.
Joining her is another St. Albert resident, Bruce Mohacsy, a long-time popular pianist who meets challenges head-on with imagination. He is a singer’s musician, one that is technically brilliant, and also listens, intuits and anticipates the next move.
The duo performs at Jeffrey’s intimate setting on Saturday, June 11 at 9 p.m. The wine bar is located at 9640 – 142 St. Cover is $15. Reserve at 780-451-8890.
Sean and Edwin Grieve and Randy Forsberg from The Vindicators are stepping into the spotlight to crank out some old-time rock ‘n roll, blues, funk, R&B and gospel at Mark Ammar’s Tuesday Open Stage.
The father-son team, Edwin (guitar) and Sean (keys/drums), are originally from the West Coast and draw inspiration from the American catalogue that extends from Jerry Lee Lewis to Pink Floyd.
Their West Coast style meshes seamlessly with Forsberg, a bassist who cut his teeth touring with Bo Diddley, and in recent years has kept the Capital region blues scene alive and kicking.
The open stage is at LB’s Pub this coming Tuesday and starts at 9 p.m. No cover charge.
