Four of St. Albert’s up-and-coming young thespians are testing their mettle in the Citadel Theatre’s Young Companies’ year-end productions.
Donna Leny Hensen and Desiree Leverenz take a bow in The Mill on the Floss, a harrowing story of a young woman in 1860s England struggling for independence, understanding and respect.
Brother-sister duo Andrew and Lauren Boyd are both cast in the musical Pippin, a Stephen Schwartz production. Schwartz’ latest hit is Wicked. This musical is about an acting troupe that tells the tall tale of Prince Pippin, a larger-than-life Broadway piece about war, love, life and everything associated with it.
“This really shows you what young actors can do. Older actors are often so busy trying to find work they forget why they initially started acting. These young actors are passionate and their work is infectious. They want to care about their characters. They are very endearing,” says Doug Mertz, director of Young Companies.

Reel Mondays aficionados expecting to see The Debt with Helen Mirren on Monday at Grandin Theatres are in for a surprise.
The Debt was unavailable for distribution and has been replaced by Jane Eyre starring an A-list cast with Mia Wasikowska, Michael Fassbender, Jamie Bell and Judi Dench.
This 115-minute film is based on the Charlotte Bronte’s classic novel of a young governess who falls in love with Edward Rochester, her employer. However, he hides a secret that keeps him from developing any romantic friendships.
