Edmonton’s Mosaic Entertainment is excited to present a half-hour of unorthodox fare for the Christmas Day television lineup.

After nearly a year of work, the award-winning multi-platform production company launches the pilot of Delmer and Marta on APTN-TV.

“It’s a sit-com. It’s family friendly. There are elements of humour. It comes across as very warm. And after you’ve eaten and opened presents, it’s a good show the whole family can watch together,” said Mosaic executive producer and partner Jessie Lipscombe.

The former St. Albert actor and athlete explained that Delmer and Marta is an offshoot from the hit comedy Caution: May Contain Nuts. It follows the calamitous journey of a popular trailer park couple.

Marta and her life-partner Delmer, played respectively by co-executive producer Howie Miller and Sheldon Elter, relocate to the fictional town of Morningside. Marta’s guileless personality catches the eye of the local radio station manager, and he offers her a job hosting an interview segment.

“She’s so sweet and earnest – quite the opposite of these other people. She has a giant heart, is super naĂŻve and just wants to help everybody,” Lipscombe noted.

However, the station atmosphere is very competitive.

It isn’t long before Lisa Iron, the competition, has it in for Marta and surprising elements pop out of the woodwork.

“This is very much a Marta focused episode. Delmer gets a job in the newsroom. He puts on a suit and becomes ‘the man.’ When he puts on the suit he goes from an innocent, humble man to this egotistical guy. Finally he realizes the suit has taken over and the power has gone to his head.”

Kids in the Hall alum Kevin McDonald is cast as Creston, the self-absorbed, know-it-all station manager. Shaun Johnston as CBC-TV’s Heartland patriarch appears as a special radio guest whose wife has left him, and Patricia Zentilli stars as the ruthless Lisa Irons.

Delmer and Marta airs Wednesday, Dec. 25 and Saturday, Dec. 28 on APTN and APTN HD respectively. Check local listings for times.
