Kinsmen selling tickets to Corporate Christmas

Halloween is barely here and St. Albert Kinsmen are already advance-planning for the seventh annual Corporate Christmas.

Halloween is barely here and St. Albert Kinsmen are already advance-planning for the seventh annual Corporate Christmas.

Every year the service club turns the Kinsmen Korral into a wonderland and puts on a lavish spread for small and medium size businesses looking for a venue to host staff Christmas parties. This year the dates are set for two Saturdays, December 3 and 10.

“We have door prizes, a midnight lunch and a featured comedian and a dance. And Cantilon Choir will be singing Christmas carols,” says Kinsmen president Patrick Dower.

Elegant Affairs once again dishes out their specialty prime rib and baked chicken breast buffet topped with potatoes, hot and cold vegetables, salads and dessert.

Entertaining the crowds on Dec. 3 is Erica Sigurdson, a highlight of Montreal’s Just for Laughs Comedy Festival. She’s written a Comedy Now pilot and four years ago was nominated for a Canadian Comedy Award for Best Female Stand-up in Canada.

“We’re very excited about getting her. We’ve tried getting her for a couple of years, but this was the only time we could secure. She brings a woman’s concept to comedy and it’s funny.”

“She talks about what women go through with men. I’ve seen her twice and both times it was a very exciting show,” Dower explains.

Following on Dec. 10 is British Columbia’s shaggy-haired Tim Nutt who looks like a six-foot two-inch lumberjack. In his shtick, Nutt doesn’t suffer fools gladly.

“He keeps the audience engaged on his war with stupid people and plays on the audience’s preconceptions.”

Following the comedy show is a dance hosted by DJ Patrick McMurphy armed with the top 40 hits of country, Latin, classic rock and pop.

“We do things like duck dances and spot dances.”

As good corporate citizens, Kinsmen will have four vans at their disposal to drive people home.

“The transportation is to St. Albert and Edmonton. We don’t want anybody drinking and driving.”

Doors open at 6 p.m. followed by dinner at 7 p.m. The comedy show starts at 9 p.m. Tables are for eight or 10 people and cost $59.95 per person. For tickets call Kristen at 587-989-1810.
