It takes a lot of hard work and talent to sing at Global Country’s All Star Concert, however despite her age St. Albert’s Daylin Jorgensen, 12, is more than prepared.

This young gal competed on national television in Karaoke Star and at Capital Ex’s Northern Star Competition. The Grade 7 Ă©cole Secondaire St. Marguerite d’Youville student has also sung at Oil King games, Eskimo games and for two MADD charities.

In fact, Jorgensen was crowned a Global Country junior division winner on May 15 and part of her prize is an invitation to perform at the All Star gig.

At the junior level competition, Jorgensen sang the Dixie Chicks’ There’s Your Trouble and Carrie Underwood’s Change. “I didn’t think it was my best performance and I was in shock. I knew if I won I’d sing at the Winspear and I was really excited. It will be a wonderful opportunity to sing in such a big place and have all my family and friends there,” Jorgensen says.

And she plans to wow the crowd, especially her pop-rock loving friends with Martina McBride’s She’s a Butterfly. “It will be good to prove to them that country is a good genre of music.”

The All Star Concert combines a competition for emerging country singers along with a reunion of more established singers. This year old favourites such as Gil Grand, Kenny Hess, Rylee Madison, Katie Mission and Jake Matthews return as the showcase artists.

“We’re also featuring winners that reflect those who have gone through the program,” says Global Country founder Maryanne Gibson.

Bouncing onto the stage are a motley collection of previous winners including the Plain Janes, Kayla Patrick, Danielle Lowe and St. Albert’s own Leah Durelle who will sing I Need to See You, a song she co-wrote with another Global alumnus Aaron Goodvin.

Gibson urges country fans to come down, buy a ticket and cast their vote for their favourite emerging artist. The six contenders are Christina Dubinsky, Sheritta Kahpeaysewat, Kasha Derechy, Ivan Daigle, Kara Wilson and Tyler Lizott.
