All fundraisers and other efforts noted below are to support the Red Cross relief effort except where noted.
– Canadian Red Cross Alberta Fires Emergency Appeal: make a $5 donation directly (through your phone bill) by texting the word ‘REDCROSS’ to 30333. Call 1-800-418-1111 or visit http://ow.ly/4nqUGb to donate another amount. All donations will be matched by both the provincial and the federal governments, effectively tripling your donation.
– Edmonton Emergency Relief Services: this relief agency is calling for volunteers and donations of diapers, baby wipes, new toiletries and personal hygiene products, and new socks and underwear. Please take your donations to its office at 10255 104 St. If you would like to volunteer, please call 780-428-4422. All larger-scale offers of goods or services can be made to the Human Services Director in the Emergency Operations Centre at 780-944-6408 or via email at [email protected].
– the City of St. Albert has set up a temporary permitting system for RVs and travel trailers for evacuees currently staying in St. Albert. Please contact Municipal Enforcement at 780-458-7700.
– the St. Albert and District Chamber of Commerce (71 St. Albert Trail): the Chamber is collecting funds to support the Fort McMurray business community through the newly-revived Alberta Chambers of Commerce Relief Trust Fund.
– DaVinci Gelato (12 C Rayborn Cr.): fundraiser today from 1 to 4 p.m. with the St. Albert Singers Guild performing at 1:30 p.m.
– St. Albert Centre (375 St Albert Trail): a bin at the food court for anyone wanting to donate useful goods such as new toiletries and personal hygiene products. Cash and gift card donations can be made at the mall's administration office (also near the food court). Special parking arrangements are being made at the mall for displaced families who are seeking somewhere to park their RVs and camping trailers.
– Martial Arts Complete Fitness (40 Chisholm Ave.): the gym is having a barbecue fundraiser today from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Evacuees get a free lunch plus the gym is open for them to stay.
– St. Albert Rugby Football Club: the Clansmen Rugby Club is doing a food drive and collecting gift cards for the Wood Buffalo Food Bank today. This is taking place at Ellerslie Rugby Park, 11004 9 Ave. SW in Edmonton.
– Sturgeon Composite High School (24214 Alberta Hwy. 37, Namao): the school is conducting a collection for needed items and a food sale fundraiser next week.
– Sturgeon Heights School (50 Hogan Rd.): the Sturgeon Heights World Changers and Leadership Class are conducting a change drive and a bottle drive (today from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.). Donations from your own refunded bottles can also be brought in to the school by Monday at noon. They are also doing a drive for food donations to support the Fort McMurray Food Bank.
– W.D. Cuts School (149 Larose Dr.): Freezies for Fort McMurray fundraiser on Friday, May 13.
– Fort McMurray Fire Accommodation Help: Albertans who are able to open their homes, rental or other properties or spaces can connect with evacuees in need of somewhere to stay through www.YMMFire.ca.
– Fort McMurray Disaster Relief: disaster aid (such as accommodations, RV hookups, etc.) for evacuees of Fort McMurray and Wood Buffalo. Visit ‘Ft. McMurray Disaster Relief’ on Facebook. The social media site also has ‘Fort McMurray evac relocation help group’ and ‘Fort Mac Fire Donations’ groups.
