A local church celebrated its 50-year anniversary last month with a lively concert.
Braeside Presbyterian Church, which had been badly damaged in a fire two years ago, was pleased to announce that attendance was as strong as ever.
“I don’t think the congregation actually lost anyone,” said pianist David Fraser.
Fraser performed at the half-centennial celebration and was instrumental in putting it together.
“There is such as strong rapport between minister Connie Lee and the community that they were able to keep that community connection even when the building was damaged.”
Despite the damages the church never missed a single service. The fire had badly burned the basement and most of the building but left the sanctuary unscathed.
When repairs were finished last summer the community celebrated by holding a concert at the church appropriately called Rising from the Ashes. The party was a hit.
“The community was looking to do something musical again,” said Fraser.
“I was contacted to round up a few musicians for a concert in June. The congregation really appreciates music.”
Fraser was impressed with the crowd’s diversity and enthusiasm. He told the Gazette that the night’s attendance surpassed his expectations.
“The concert was really wonderful. It was so diverse and there were so many great community members who showed up to give their support.”
