Over the past several days there has been an outpouring of support for the RCMP, and in particular the Wynn and Bond families. St. Albert is a special community when it comes to support for each other and this has been especially evident over the past few days. We all know it will continue.

On behalf of City Council, I encourage everyone to continue to show your support in your own way. The support has been through emails, letters, Facebook postings, flowers at the City Hall flagpole and flowers at the RCMP detachment. There have been prayers, planning of prayer services, food delivered to the RCMP detachment, a white ribbon campaign, and candles being lit in show of love, support and solidarity.

There are many ways we demonstrate support for others in this community and this tragedy is showing the St. Albert community spirit that we all know and appreciate.

Council is encouraging everyone to find your own way to show your way of caring about the Wynn and Bond families, as it is in this way that we help make this community stronger.

Our hearts and prayers at this particular time are especially with the Wynn family. We have you in our thoughts.

The thoughts and prayers of all Nova Scotians are with Const. David Wynn and his family in this difficult time. He helped Nova Scotians in their times of need for years and has served bravely with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. I'm sure I speak for the entire province when I say we are thinking of him.

– Stephen McNeil, premier of Nova Scotia in a press release announced through Twitter

May the support of so many be felt by all officers as we thank you for all you do to keep us safe.

An unbelievable morning of sadness in St. Albert. My thoughts and prayers are with the RCMP officers, their families and colleagues.

I never believed that something like this could occur in St. Albert. I have gone through a whole range of emotions – shock, disbelief, sorrow and anger.

When I watched the Sunday RCMP Media Conference and the Deputy Commissioner said that Constable Wynn was unlikely to survive, I felt a huge hole in my stomach. I do not believe I have ever met Constable Wynn; but I do know many members of the St. Albert Detachment. I cannot imagine what they are going through. This hits way, way, too close to home!

As more information has become disclosed about the suspect, my emotion turned to confusion and then anger. Apparently, this individual has a rap sheet of close to a hundred charges, some current. Apparently, he missed a court date in January; presumably then there was a warrant out for his arrest.

I agree with Commissioner Paulson that it is unfathomable that such an individual could "be walking among us." The justice system has let as all down.

It will be up to lawyers, judges and politicians to address such a gaping hole in our system of justice; in the meantime, I pray for Constable Wynn and his family.
