Tickets for Chris Hadfield go on sale
Chris Hadfield is one of Canada's orbiting stars – a pilot who flew two space shuttle missions and was the first Canadian commander of the International Space Station. He's also an author and musician.
There are probably only a couple of dozen other people on the planet that equal his pedigree. So when Hadfield books a motivational speaking engagement, tickets are snapped up quickly.
The Arden Theatre has already received a lot of queries about Hadfield's Oct. 25 engagement. Rumour around the theatre is that there will be a run on seats when tickets go on sale to the public July 29.
Considered an entertaining speaker, Hadfield inspires audiences to reach the stars. He is also releasing Off Planet, an anticipated new album of guitar and vocal tracks he recorded while manning the International Space Station.
Tickets for the event are $100 plus facility fee or $130 that includes a copy of An Astronaut's Guide to Life on Earth. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m.
They can be purchased in person at the Arden Box office, by phoning 780-459-1542 or online at ticketmaster.ca.
Interstellar Rodeo rides into town
Building on last year's remarkable success, the fourth annual Interstellar Rodeo returns July 24 to 26 with a roster of incredible performing artists.
The headliners include St. Vincent, a Grammy-winning art rock guitar hero; Father John Misty, an indie savant and social critic, and Buffy Sainte-Marie, a badass musical, cultural and political legend.
Some of this year's standouts are dynamic, progressive women ranging from otherworldly singer Tanya Tagaq to the jaw-dropping vocals of Rhiannon Giddens and the brassy vocals of Elle King.
Southern blues, rock and soul are a common thread at the festival and there are a few slam-dunks with Shakey Graves, Justin Townes Earl and Black Joe Lewis.
Closer to home, folksingers Edmonton's Colleen Brown and Fort Saskatchewan's Joe Nolan entertain with their breakout acts.
The Wet Secrets (includes Morinville's Christan Maslyk), winners of the Peak Performance Project in Alberta, kick the festival off on Friday, July 24 with their unmistakable marching band style and intensely addictive party rock sound.
The festival takes place at Hawrelak Park's Amphitheatre. Tickets vary in price. Visit interstellarrodeo.com for more information.
The Introverts play St. Albert
