Nominations for the Association of Country Music in Alberta have been announced with two of St. Albert's most celebrated entertainers leading the pack.
Dan Davidson, whose single
Barn Burner has attracted a lot of fan and industry notice, received the nod for four awards including Male Artist of the Year, Fan Choice, Song of the Year and Video of the Year. As a previous recipient of four ACMA awards, the popular, well-liked recording artist enters the race with both talent and well-placed name recognition.
Close on his heels, Hailey Benedict, 15, whose song
Clean Slate sung for Keith Urban and 20,000 country fans at Rogers Place, has nabbed nominations for Female Artist of the Year, Fan's Choice and the Horizon Youth Award. A strong contender, she won ACMA's Fan Choice in 2014 and is also a five-time 2017 North America Country Music Association International (NACMAI) Youth Winner.
In a first nomination this year, Morinville country-rock singer-songwriter Justin Hogg's single
Smoke Signals, co-written with Lynn Tessari, is nominated for Song of the Year. It's a very tight category , however the multiple NACMAI winner sings a musically muscular song.
Sturgeon County photographer Bill Borgwardt, who received the 2015 Industry Person of the Year Award, is once again in the spotlight for his ongoing dedication to country music.
In the Entertainer of the Year category, a new classification created this year, former St. Albert singer-songwriter Aaron Goodvin, now living in Nashville, is one of the five nominees. Brett Kissel, Gord Bamford, High Valley and The Road Hammers are also vying for the title.
Entertainer of the Year is awarded to an individual, duo or group who show the greatest competence in all aspects of the entertainment field. It consists of success in radio, recorded and live performances, writing skills, attitude, leadership and an overall contribution to country music.

Baroque Chamber Music Treasures, a fundraising recital for The Alberta Baroque Ensemble on Sunday, Nov. 12 at Robertson-Wesley United Church.
It's a cello-based concert that allows St. Albert cellist Rhonda Metszies to showcase her nuanced skills. It includes Antonio Vivaldi's
Trio for Violin, Cello and Continuo, Stephen Paxton's
Sonata for Two Cellos and Georg Philipp Telemann's
Concerto for Flute, Violin, Cello and Continuo.
Two of Canada's top tier musicians, soprano Dawn Bailey and Elizabeth Koch, principal flautist for Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, are featured as special guests.
