Ubuntu (The Capetown Project) premiering at the Citadel Theatre on Thursday, Oct. 12 is an east-west exploration that crosses borders.
Set in two time periods 30 years apart, this Canadian-South African collaboration brings together movement, music, dance and storytelling in both Xhosa and English.
Ubuntu opens when Jabba, a South African man travels from Cape Town to Canada in search of his father who left when he was a baby. Jabba has a picture of his father and there is another person in the photo, Michael.
However, when Jabba approaches Michael, he claims not to remember Philani, Jabba's father. Through a string of flashbacks, it is revealed that Michael is more closely tied to Philani than he lets on.
Directed by Citadel artistic director Daryl Cloran, the five member cast features original South African cast members Mbulelo Grootboom and Andile Nebulane. They are joined by Canadian actors David Jansen, Tracey Power and Erin McGrath.

This Saturday, Mark Ammar's Saturday Sessions presents special guest St. Albert jazz, pop and rock singer Crystal Hanson.
A versatile and dynamic stage personality, Hanson is a regular with Dash Rip Rock and last performed at the 2017 Rockin' August street dance.
Also a member of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, the multi-talented artist has written and co-produced several music-based Fringe shows.
