Once again Cirque du Soleil has produced another sophisticated multi-media signature event that will land in Rogers Place from Dec. 22 through to Dec. 26.

Inspired by James Cameron’s Avatar, Toruk The First Flight is a mythical tale set thousands of years prior to the film depiction in a simpler world before humans set foot in Pandora.

This specifically choreographed extravaganza features a riveting fusion of cutting-edge visuals, puppetry and stagecraft buoyed by a soaring cinematic score.

Tickets start at $51 and are available at cirquedusoleil.com/toruk.

For the 10th consecutive year, One Candle Productions hosts the all-ages A Christmas Karol: Karol Wojtyla Nativity Play on Saturday, Dec. 3 at Royal Alberta Museum.

Directed by Mena Jewell, the production tells the story of the classic nativity complete with traditional script, authentic costumes and a cast of youth.

The show starts at 2 p.m. at 12845 – 102 Ave. Tickets range from $7 to $15 and are available at 780-420-1757 or at tixonthesquare.ca.

Festival City Winds Music Society is jumping into the holiday spirit with its full complement of four bands on Saturday, Dec. 3 at Concordia University.

Conductors Wendy Grasdahl and Dr. Eila Peterson have programmed a variety of music that brings back memories of late-night, horse-drawn sleigh rides.

The repertoire includes White Christmas, Silent Night, Winter Wonderland and a jazzy rendition of Troika from Sergei Prokofiev’s Lieutenant KijĂ© Suite, a popular orchestral suite originally commissioned for a film of the same name.

Tickets range from $5 to $12 and can be purchased at the door.
