Singing Christmas Tree

If you're in the mood for a glam, Las Vegas-style holiday celebration check out the Edmonton Singing Christmas Tree.

Now in its 46th year, it is a Christmas spectacle with dancing Santas, beautiful ballerinas, amazing acrobats, colourful costumes and an incredible 35-foot Christmas tree filled with a choir of 150 singers.

One of the special soloists this year is St. Albert's Hailey Benedict, who at the tender age of 13 is an emerging singer-songwriter to watch.

Other voices to watch are Annais Castellanos, Ariana Whitlow, Erika Noot and Tri-City Rat Pack's Terrell Edwards and Bernard Quilala.

Show times are Dec. 17 to 20 at the Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium. Tickets are available through ticketmaster.ca.

Amahl and the Night Visitors

In yet a very different holiday production, Opera Nuova presents Amahl and the Night Visitors on Dec. 18 and 19 at South Pointe Community Church.

Christmas is not Christmas without Gian Carlo Menotti's one-act opera about the Three Kings unexpected stopover at the home of a crippled shepherd boy. It is a tale about the power of the gift of giving.

Kim Mattice Wanat directs the production while St. Albert's conductor Michael Massey and featured players from Edmonton Youth Orchestra provide the music. For tickets call 780-420-1757 or go online to tixonthesquare.ca.
