Alberta Ballet’s final dance

Love Lies Bleeding, featuring the music of Elton John and Bernie Taupin, returns for a second over-the-top engagement at the Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium on May 13 and 14.

When Alberta Ballet artistic director/choreographer Jean Grand-Maître debuted the dramatic dance spectacle in May 2010, it raised the bar for rock ballet.

The multi-media ballet returns with 14 classic songs that depict a musician’s rise to fame coupled with the sacrifices and triumphs of reaching stardom.

Dancer Yukichi Hattori, who has dazzled audiences for over a decade, is also announced his retiring from the company. The glam rock ballet is the Tokyo-trained dancer’s final performance.

Tickets start at $29. Call 780-428-6839 or at ticket.albertaballet.com.

Rosie Award winners

This year the Rosie Awards were all over the map with the majority as first-time nominees. But of the veterans, former St. Albert resident Ron E. Scott’s celebrated Blackstone, which has now finished its run on APTN, received the nod for Best Production Reflecting Cultural Diversity.

A complete list of the 55 winners is available at ampia.org.

Captain Noah and His Floating Zoo

A Joyful Noise Monday Choir closes the season with the fantastically witty and light-hearted Captain Noah and His Floating Zoo at St. Timothy’s Anglican Church on Saturday, May 14.

The choir’s featured guests are Edmonton Children’s Primary Choir and soloist Martin Murphy, a regular actor for Mayfield Dinner Theatre and CBC’s The Irrelevant Show.

The concert starts at 3 p.m. St. Timothy’s Anglican Church is at 8420 – 145 St. Tickets are $15 to $25 at 780-420-1757 or at tixonthesquare.ca.
