Once again the 2016 Endometriosis Awareness Comedy Show shifts into high gear this coming Saturday at the Rouge RestoLounge.

Former St. Albert resident Brandi LaPerle, who has suffered through endometriosis for more than 20 years, makes it her mission to acquaint people about this painful disorder that affects one in 10 women.

And as a professional stand-up comic, laughter is her strongest educational tool.

LaPerle’s feature headliner is Lisa Baker, a Newfoundland transplant who moved to Alberta six years ago.

Before taking up comedy, Baker worked at several industrial jobs where she collected a variety of eclectic jokes. Her style leans as easily towards blue humour as clean material.

“She’s a headliner at Yuk Yuk’s and performed at the garrison military base,” said LaPerle.

Also on tap is Edmonton funny man, William Hannigan, a regular at Rouge. Stand-up comedian Ben Proulx returns as master of ceremonies while Angela Wice’s special presentation Faces of Endo comes back for a second screening.

Doors at 7 p.m., show is at 8 p.m. Rouge is at 10111 – 117 St. Tickets are $20 at the door. To reserve a table call 780-482-5152.

The sixth annual Early Music Festival is on May 6 to 8 at the First Presbyterian Church. It features a fully staged show of John Blow’s opera Venus and Adonis (complete with Baroque dancers), a Bach concert for recorder and soprano and an evening of English viola music for up to five viola da gambas.

This year the festival includes the da Camera Singers, Ariose Women’s Choir and La Folia Baroque String Ensemble.

Festival passes, tickets and schedules are available at earlymusicalberta.com.
