The 2016 Edmonton Music Awards were just announced and St. Albert singer-songwriters and musicians are represented in 10 of 21 categories.

Taking the lead is The Provincial Archive with four nominations – Album of the Year (The Provincial Archive), Single of the Year (Bad Connection), Indie Rock Recording (Bad Connection) and Group of the Year.

Also battling it out for Album of the Year is The Hearts with Equal Love.

Country rocker Dan Davidson’s Unkiss Her is up for Country Recording of the Year. He also received a nod for Male Artist of the Year.

Doug Hoyer’s Get It Right and White Lightning’s One Last Time are vying for Pop Recording of the Year and the A/B Trio’s What Happens Next is nominated for Jazz Recording of the Year.

Former St. Albert Idol winner Rebecca Lappa is recognized as a Rising Star and White Lightning’s One Last Time received a second nomination as Indie Rock Recording.

This year’s People’s Choice, determined by online votes, has 86 artists to chose from. They include the jazzy A/B Trio, Beth Portman & the Good Find’s rootsy vibe, Darrell Barr’s country appeal and White Lightning’s indie pop-rock sound.

The Edmonton Music Awards take place at the Winspear Centre on Wednesday, June 29. Tickets are $24 plus service charges and go on sale Monday, May 2. For more information visit edmontonmusicawards.com.

The indie-pop trio hits the road on a variety of mini-tours. They’ll play Edmonton’s Needle Vinyl Tavern on Thursday, April 28 in time to celebrate their EMA nomination. Opening is Faith Healers and Velveteins.
