Go 4 Broke hottest improv troupe in St. Albert

Every last Tuesday of the month, Go 4 Broke gets together for a night of zany improv games and comedy sketches at NEXT Christian Community Church.

This coming Tuesday, the St. Albert working man’s improv troupe marshals its talents for Improv Assembled: Gladiator Improv Edition.

The Gladiator format is usually an irreverent take on pop culture presented through a variety of topics and themes chosen by the audience.

Ten improvisers divided into five groups interpret a theme selected by the audience. If the interpretation is disliked, the audience votes the team off.

“And then the other improvisers pretend to bludgeon them on stage,” laughed Josh Languedoc, one of the troupe’s drivers.

There are 21 actors in the group including St. Albert’s Sean Bedard, Ali Yusuf, T.J. Eggleston and Jeremy LaRiche as well as Corrina Cornforth from Morinville.

The 90-minute show starts at 7:30 p.m. NEXT Christian is on 140 St. Albert Rd. at Village Tree Landing. Admission is $10 and $5 for students.

MacEwan ends season with Heathers

Oh, those mean girls. The MacEwan University Faculty of Fine Arts presents the black comedy Heathers, The Musical from April 30 to April 9.

It’s the tale of Veronica Sawyer, a brainy, beautiful teenage misfit who thrusts her way into the most catty, merciless girls clique at Westberg High. Before she reaches the zenith of popularity, Veronica falls for a strange and ultimately dangerous new student.

Trevor Schmidt, artistic director of Northern Light Theatre, directs this macabre comedy. And the talented duo from St. Albert Children Theatre, Janice Flower and Jackie Pooke, provide musical direction and dance choreography.

Performances start at 7:30 p.m. at the MacEwan Theatre Lab, Centre for the Arts and Communications, 10045 – 156 St. Tickets are $15 to $25. Call 780-420-1757 or tixonthesquare.ca
