The St. Albert Youth Music Association puts their mark on the holiday season with two concerts titled Christmas Stories today at St. Albert United Church.
During the afternoon concert at 2:30 p.m., two choirs of the youngest children entertain with short musical performances. The St. Albert Mini Singers – three- and four-year-olds – present The Christmas Cats, a tale about how felines save Christmas when Santa and the elves get sick.
Rounding out the afternoon performance is The St. Albert Little Singers – kindergarten to Grade 2 – who venture into the world of pirates and their discovery about the underlying lesson of the importance of family and friends.
Later in the evening at 7 p.m., the St. Albert Children’s Choir – Grades 3 to 5 – gives a musical recitation of ’Twas the Night Before Christmas while the St. Albert Youth Singers – grades 6 and up – feature Winter Lights, an original production written by Katia Mierau.
“It’s about a small town that celebrates the beauty of winter and hope,” said assistant director Kathy Franzke. “It’s about what happens when a Christmas torch goes out in the town. People learn the lessons about the importance of accepting others and working together to reach a state of peace.”
Tickets are $12 and are available at the door. Each ticket is good for both performances.
Former St. Albert Children’s Theatre alumna Bridget Ryan, now a third-time writer, launches Who is Boo 3: The Spectacular Adventures of One Trickster Rabbit today at Bearclaw Gallery from 1 to 4 p.m.
Illustrated by MĂ©tis visual artist Jason Carter, the 66-page children’s book follows the worldly adventures of a trickster rabbit who develops a friendship with a moose.
